  • Ladies Festival Report by Mel White
    Date: 23/07/2017
    Venue: Ferndown Cricket Club

Our first ever Women's softball tournament took place on the 23rd of July at Ferndown Cricket Club. We were in the brilliant position of being able to enter 2 teams, the only club to do so, a brilliant achievement for such a small area. We were split into the Beaminster Bumbles ( Hayley (cpt) Louisa, Kirstie, Toni, Karen R, Marion and Karen C) and Beaminster Bumblebees ( Mel (cpt) Krissie, Laura, Clare, Lily, Fiona and Ella)

Beaminster Bumblebees 228 v 237 Sherlyme - a nervy game but we settled in quickly...Sherlyme had one brilliant player who dominated the game..but we bowled brilliantly just didn't take our run scoring opportunities.

Beaminster Bumblebees 204 v 275 Blandford - Playing against a well established team that had a huge amount of cricketing experience (they didn't drop a point and won the league easily) we were hit all around the pitch and lost quite a few wickets!! Despite this we bowled very few wides and our confidence in fielding improved so much.

Beaminster Bumblebees 252 v 242 Broadstone - This game we got serious (ish)! We were a solid unit determined to win this last game. Our batting was brilliant and we lost just one wicket in our innings. Our bowling was tight..conceding just 2 wides and our fielding was outstanding. We really played well in this last game and ended on a high!

Beaminster Bumbles 238 v 257 FWCC - To say we were nervous would be an understatement. However, our batting was strong and it was our bowling that caused us problems with a lot of wides conceded. Our fielding was strong and we definitely showed signs of improvement as the game went on.

Beaminster Bumbles 275 v 262 Wimborne - We had settled in by this game and our nerves were a bit more under control. Our bowling was a lot more accurate which improved our chances. Our batting was very strong and we took our run scoring opportunities. Beaminster Bumbles 256 v 251 Winton A very close game against a very competitive team. We held our nerve in a very tense finish to win against a very strong team.

Throughout the day we were definitely the most vocal groups and supported each other...even when the games were tricky. We all surprised ourselves with how well we performed. Above all this though...we had so much fun. I am so proud of how far we have all come in such a small space of time and things are only going to get better!!
